What We Do

The North East Research & Social Work Networking (NERSWN) is registered as society based in Kokrajhar district of Bodoland (Assam), India. Till 2007, NERSWN has been actively involved with developing village level health workers to control Malaria in the Bhutan foothills across four districts of Bodoland Territorial Council. It also was involved with promoting the traditional skill of Endi rearing & silk production among the local tribes with a view to secure livelihood. Due to emergence of NRHM, the NERSWN has reduced service delivery role, it now focuses in organizing capacities of communities to own and monitor the health programs in the villages. However, in view of the complete absence of mental health services, the NERSWN still is involved with care and treatment of mentally ill. Currently, the NERSWN is involved with six thematic areas viz. Health, Education, Livelihood, Women Empowerment, Advocating for the Rights of the Marginalized and Research & Networking. Under each thematic area, NERSWN has been carrying out small projects in its operational area. Based on these thematic areas, we work at two levels, one being the direct development intervention in the villages and secondly, advocacy, research & networking related works. In the villages, the NERSWN is involved with community monitoring of NRHM, facilitating care & treatment of mentally ill, promoting aflatoun club & bank through Aflatoun social & financial education program in 200 government schools, running a school for the displaced children in Sapkata Relief Camp, working with women vendors for securing their livelihood, enabling displaced children to create protective environment for themselves, mobilizing community to claim their entitlement under different schemes and programs and so on. Besides, we at NERSWN are involved with small action research on different issues. We are also actively networking with other organization across the region to support the advocacy work, learn and share learning. One of the founder members of the organization is Convener of two such networks such as Lower Assam NGO Forum and Peoples’ Rights Forum, Assam. The organization also plays supportive role for other civil society organization through training, workshop, lending support to other small organization and being part of the various peaceful & democratic campaign of those organization.
